Universal should have quit while they were ahead with Jaws 2. As I said, that was an okey sequel, but obviously it could not surpass or match what the original movie did when it wowed the world with its thrills and suspense. And while Jaws 3 was dumb and awful, that should have been a red flag for Universal, as if any and all future sequels to Jaws would just get weaker and weaker with the plots and the shark's presence. I mean, they actually had the audacity to go the extra mile by having two sharks in this movie, in which one is 35 feet long?!?!?!

I think part of why Jaws did so well is that the exaggeration of a shark's behavior and interaction with humans for the plot was a welcome idea to audiences, like a 25-foot great white, larger than any measured species. But then they exaggerate even more with the sequels, so then it becomes boring and preposterous. As another example, you have this large great white being the mother of a smaller shark, getting revenge on the people after her baby dies. Now that's going too far since sharks not only do not care for their children, but they are not sentient to know what humans do to them or other sharks they might know.

Elements like the size of the great white and her getting killed with a grenade was obviously taken from The Last Shark, which was also released as Great White in the US, and was pulled from theaters shortly after its released because of its extreme similarity to Jaws and the filmmakers having been accused of plagiarism. Before you ask, yes, I have also seen The Last Shark, and that's another movie to make my Most Hated list. Part of the reason being is that the mechanical shark looks so fake, and SO much faker than Bruce and all the other sharks in the Jaws movies! And before the shark is revealed, mostly whenever it attacks someone from under the water, it causes an EXPLOSION to occur??? WHAT?!?!?!

Jaws 3 is bad, but The Last Shark and Jaws: The Revenge are much worse!

I remember very little about Jaws 3. It's been too long since I've seen any of these movies. The part in Jaws 3 that always stood out to me (not a good thing!) is how awful that 3-D effect was it crashed through the glass. Even as a little kid that made me laugh! Seems like a Jaws marathon is in store for me here soon. Aside from revisiting the original film I can't say I'm really looking forward to the others! I have seen Last Shark / Great White but that was also too long ago to comment much on it.

Yeah, the 3D effects aren't even something to make the film memorable, and it's easy to see which scenes are meant for that purpose, such as the shark's teeth approaching the screen after it has exploded.

Side note: the director's name was "Joe" Alves, not "John" Alves. He had been the production designer for the first two films, and Jaws 3 was the only film he ever made as a director.
