The 2015 Orloks - 1993 Results

Started many moons ago by Prof-Hieronymos-Grost, the Orloks were a yearly poll on the IMDb horror boards where users submitted Top 5 lists of their favorite horror movies for each year. All of the results were then tabulated to come up with a definitive list of the year's most-liked genre offerings. Alas, when the good Professor decided to depart the boards years ago, the awards went with him... that is until now. IMDb-er seth_yeah - taking on responsibilities as both host and calculator - has decided to bring back this long-standing tradition in 2015, and now the awards will have a permanent place right here on this blog. Scoring is rather simple and done on a weighted system where first choice receives 5 points, second choice 4 points, etc., with a +1 bonus then awarded to the #1 selection on each list. IMDb release years are being used, but it is left up to voters to determine what they may or may not consider horror (which may be in conflict with IMDb's genre labeling system). If you'd like to participate, head on over to the IMDb HORROR BOARDS to vote! So without any further ado, the results...

OK, i've seen an even 20 of the films listed here. what this exercise points out to me is just how few great horror pictures i've seen for years that stick in my mind as being really strong (maybe this comment would be more apt somewhere in the '80s). also, that when it comes to horror -- at least between 1984-1992/3 -- there are very few foreign fright-films on my viewing lists, and "fun, fun, fun" seems paramount -- makes me look like some kind of un-serious xenophobe.

1993 candidates?

BODY SNATCHERS
CRONOS...........

hmm. suddenly 1994 is looking better. there's DARK HALF, DARKNESS (all inspiration, most of it from PHANTASM II, no substance), MAN'S BEST FRIEND (decent ally sheedy performance and made with some humor -- dog paw punching up through rubble...) none of which would be on my list. didn't mind WITCHBOARD II.

I ended up voting for Cronos, Untold Story, Return III, Schramm and Skinner so four of my five actually made the Top 5 for a change. Clean, Shaven is very good too but I forgot to vote for it for some reason. Need to re-watch Witchboard II sometime but I remember thinking it was pretty fun back in the day and ditto for Man's Best Friend. Haven't seen Darkness yet.

guess i'd also consider ACTING ON IMPULSE, which worked hard to appeal to b-horror fans.

That's another one I haven't seen!

it's nothing special. lots of well-known faces in cameos and bit roles.
