Started many moons ago by Prof-Hieronymos-Grost, the Orloks were a yearly poll on the IMDb horror boards where users submitted Top 5 lists of their favorite horror movies for each year. All of the results were then tabulated to come up with a definitive list of the year's most-liked genre offerings. Alas, when the good Professor decided to depart the boards years ago, the awards went with him... that is until now. IMDb-er seth_yeah - taking on responsibilities as both host and calculator - has decided to bring back this long-standing tradition in 2015, and now the awards will have a permanent place right here on this blog. Scoring is rather simple and done on a weighted system where first choice receives 5 points, second choice 4 points, etc., with a +1 bonus then awarded to the #1 selection on each list. IMDb release years are being used, but it is left up to voters to determine what they may or may not consider horror (which may be in conflict with IMDb's genre labeling system). If you'd like to participate, head on over to the IMDb HORROR BOARDS to vote! So without any further ado, the results...

I have no idea how a title like PERVERSE PREACHERS, FASCIST FUNDAMENTALISTS AND KRISTIAN KIDDIE KOOKS managed to escape me all these years. Sounds like something I'd enjoy.
Yeah that is rather strange The Boneyard made it into the Top 5. The poodle monster is great and it has some other cool stuff going on but not enough for the Top 5 I don't think. Guess that just goes to show what a weak year it was overall.
Not a fan of Silence of the Lambs?
Going to be watching Scream Queen Hot Tub Party here soon!

i learned about ZONTAR: MAGAZINE FROM VENUS, i presume somewhat after the fact from ivan stang's book, HIGH WEIRDNESS BY MAIL. PREACHERS is a long string of TV tapings edited together over several years, valuable for the number of truly obscure things preserved there. totally irresistible. i think it opens with some low-rent xtian public-access kids' show on a set made up like a sailing ship. the two hosts, dressed in pirate garb, are singing lively songs with puppets and whatnot, then out of nowhere they start talking about autopsies while ripping apart a plastic mannequin on a trolley. a _kids'_ show.

i'm honestly not sure. only saw it once near when it came out. after that much time has passed, it's like not having seen it at all.

wish that had been a full feature and not a clip show, 'cause the original stuff is choice. look forward to the write-up.
"Perverse Preachers" got me thumbing through my Psychotronic Encyclopedia and there is a listing for it there. What you said combined with what it says has me stoked to watch it. I thought I wouldn't be able to find it but low and behold I went to Youtube and the whole thing is there... and with the director's blessing! Then the director posted a link to a scan of the booklet that came with the original VHS that can be found right here...

I'll be saving this project for a Sunday. haha
i need to get the guide -- i have some early PSYCHOTRONIC VIDEO issues; none after 1991. leafed through iss. #10 (summer '91), and was surprised to find a capsule for PPFFKKK in there. added several more titles on my 'to find' list, too...
I've never even seen the magazine, just have the two film guides, which have introduced me to LOTS of new movies.
it is most likely romanticism, but looking back through PV made me pine a little bit for the pre-internet past, when print publications like these were our bibles. these days, with all the previously arcane knowledge out there to be received at once with the click of a mouse -- it's harder to maintain that old sense of 'my own discovery', and whenever i write on-line, i can't escape the notion of duplicating / pushing information from one place to another.
It's really a double-edged sword. I definitely miss the days of going to video stores looking for anything I hadn't seen or heard of before and going to bookstores to buy every book I could find on horror films to learn more. Even in the early days of internet ebay was fun for the same reason but now pretty much everything is available SOMEwhere. You really can't beat the availability and the opportunity to see films you never could have seen before. But I do agree it seemed more exciting and somehow special to be able to FINALLY find something you spent years looking for. I mean, you had to put real work into it!
yeah, that was gonna be my follow-up -- when i've had to locate a film, maybe spent years tracking it down, or even waited weeks for a copy to come through, i've enjoyed it more, or given it more of a chance than i would if all i had to do was hit 'buy' or download. while the instant access is great, we couldn't really do without it, now. there's no going back.
No there isn't. I'm fine with where things are now and it's pretty cool to have gotten to experience both the heyday of the video store age plus now where nearly every movie can be found somewhere. I still do get excited when I run across a movie I haven't even heard of before, though it happens much less frequently than it used to!
Barton Fink?
Someone voted for it, though I'm not sure who now. It wasn't me! lol
