Started many moons ago by Prof-Hieronymos-Grost, the Orloks were a yearly poll on the IMDb horror boards where users submitted Top 5 lists of their favorite horror movies for each year. All of the results were then tabulated to come up with a definitive list of the year's most-liked genre offerings. Alas, when the good Professor decided to depart the boards years ago, the awards went with him... that is until now. IMDb-er seth_yeah - taking on responsibilities as both host and calculator - has decided to bring back this long-standing tradition in 2015, and now the awards will have a permanent place right here on this blog. Scoring is rather simple and done on a weighted system where first choice receives 5 points, second choice 4 points, etc., with a +1 bonus then awarded to the #1 selection on each list. IMDb release years are being used, but it is left up to voters to determine what they may or may not consider horror (which may be in conflict with IMDb's genre labeling system). If you'd like to participate, head on over to the IMDb HORROR BOARDS to vote! So without any further ado, the results...

< Back to 2012 Continue to 2014 >
it surprises me that i saw not one, not two, but three (count 'em!) horror movies from 2013: WILLOW CREEK (that one effective "what's out there?" scene in the tent...), CURSE OF CHUCKY (which didn't get any votes), and THE WNUF HALLOWEEN SPECIAL, which more-or-less nails the look, but got super repetitive after an hour. i tried to watch another by lamartina, CALL GIRL OF CTHULHU, and bailed around the 15 minute mark.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of this particular Top 5 at all. The Conjuring and World War Z were both hugely disappointing trips to the theater for me. Oculus is great for the first hour or so but I wasn't a fan of the last third. Never finished The Sacrament and still need to see Under the Skin. Further down the list, the Evil Dead remake was basically just a well-made gore-fest sadly lacking the personality of the original, Open Grave was OK-ish but not great and Strange Color of Your Body's Tears I found utterly awful.
ReplyDeletei'm totally adrift in these years. i discovered the lovely leanna chamish through the WNUF thing (or maybe it was that dohler doc, BLOOD, BOOBS & BEAST). she started in 2001, so i'll have a hell of a time finding anything she's in that's tolerable.
ReplyDeleteCan't help you out there because I've never seen a single film starring her.
ReplyDeletea fool's errand, probably.
ReplyDeleteLooks like she is in a movie with Brinke called "Her Morbid Desires." Surprised you haven't seen that one yet. lol
ReplyDeletei must remedy this oversight immediately.
